Assignment 12 - Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No.1

Findings:

The segment that I targeted for this assignment was college students. After interviewing individuals in my target segment, I learned quite a bit about the segment that I had not known before. I asked my interviewees when they recognized the problem of not having available seating, and they said that recognition of the problem was irregular. They said that it is a need that one does not think about until one has it. As to where they recognized the problem, popular answers where in class, the library, concerts, and sporting events. Interesting locations that I hadn’t considered include the beach and bus stops. In their information search for a solution, my interviewees said they typically reach out to a friend or scan their surroundings in order to solve the problem of having nowhere to sit. When searching in Google to find a solution, they use search terms such as “foldable chair”, “portable chair”, and “comfortable chair”.

Conclusions:

The need awareness of my targeted segment is quite good. They are very aware of the need for seating, but accept the reality of not having seating available. They are not aware of a solution and are not seeking one. I believe that the recognition of my product could be serendipitous to consumers. It could be one of those products that one does not know one needs until one sees it. The segment’s information search is not very good. They look for solutions by word of mouth for the most part. They are not actively searching for a solution to their problem.
